I'd love to get more high interest books for my classroom library. My classroom is full of readers with different reading levels. During our Reader's Workshop students are expected to apply the skills they acquire from the lesson into their independent reading books. Research shows that in order to improve in reading students needs to read 30 books on their independent level in order to grow to the next level. This is why it is important to me to provide a variety of books to students so that they can practice and apply their skills. Books are a vital part of the development in a child. In our diverse classroom students are required to have 3-4 books on their reading level at a time in their book box. This means, they need to have access to a number of titles that spark their interests. I have students on all levels and that are in programs that include Gifted and Talented and ESL. It would mean so much to us to have more books that appeal to the different interests in our classroom.
