My inner-city students are challenged everyday in many ways. They walk to school through clearly-marked gang territories braving drugs and violence. Many are first-generation immigrants and are learning English. All are ethnic minorities. Despite their individual challenges, my students are incredibly resilient and inquisitive. They love to read and constantly ask questions related to science. However, the lack of resources has limited our capacity to conduct inquiry-related projects, which is the backbone of science.
