I have wanted to incorporate the use of sensory bins in my Pre-K classroom, but the money I am given for supplies each year is just not enough to purchase these for my students. I am looking to provide my students with these four separated, raised sensory bins so that I am able to fill each with something different such as sand, water, pasta, or water beads. One example of how I would use these in my lesson plans is by having students search through a variety of materials to find shapes, letters, and numbers. I would be able to test their growth as I also provide them with a unique way to explore and describe the way that things feel. By the time I send my students to kindergarten, I want them to have developed as much as possible. I believe that "kindergarten-ready" means more than knowing specific standards. I think that too often learning skills and abilities such as sensory awareness and moral character are pushed aside to make room for state standards. However, I would like to provide my students with an appropriate balance so that they are ready to continue developing into well-rounded young people. With your generosity, I hope that my students can start to focus more on their sensory awareness and development of their motor skills. Thank you!
