Every year, our students at Bryant Elementary have had the opportunity to attend a 6th grade outdoor science camp. The school was previously given the funding by a private donor from a large corporation. This donor has decided to retire and will no longer be contributing to the funds of this program. The 110 6th grade students of Bryant Elementary come from low socioeconomic families. Therefore, they are unable to afford to donate to this experience. It has saddened our students and parents that this experience will be taken away from them. When the students go to camp, they get a chance to see themselves differently than they did before. With the growing popularity of STEM and the increasing demands of science in our future, we need to enlighten the minds of our scholars. They then can pursue the continuing demand of careers in the fields of science. It is also important for the students to get ready for junior high and all the responsibilities that come with becoming independent contributing members to society.
