I strive to have an attractive, accessible classroom library for my students. I spend much of my free time on weekends and in the summer combing through thrift stores, flea markets, and yard sales to add to my collection. The majority of my classroom books are on loan from my own daughters' bookshelf. I taught 3rd grade last year. After moving to 2nd grade this year, I realized we lack appropriate 2nd grade titles. Students reading at this level need 6-10 books in their book boxes, as opposed to 2-3 titles at higher levels. This grant will provide eighty-two new highly engaging titles that will support student learning on a daily basis. I am requesting Dragonbreath, Bad Kitty, Stink, Katie Woo, Henry and Mudge, and Elephant and Piggie book sets. These books will allow my students to read independently during our Reading Workshop instruction. I anticipate great excitement among my class for these additions to our classroom library!
