For many students with special needs, making friends can be an intimidating and challenging experience! Especially during the recess times, where there can be up to 200 other children on the yard and some very competitive recess games, my students often move to the side lines. This project will allow our classroom to create recess bins. These recess bins will encourage inclusion, play and friendships between my students and their typically developing peers! Each day my students will get to pick their favorite games and activities, unique from the standard recess equipment, to take outside and share with classmates and new friends. Having games and activities that are unique will draw in more students while allowing my students to play and lead games that are their own comfort level. While developing their social skills, my students will also be able to practice sportsmanship, teamwork and develop gross motor skills giving them the confidence they need to fully enjoy and participate in their elementary experience!
