My students have a range of reading skills spanning from Kindergarten reading levels to late 2nd grade. To assure that my students continue to improve their literacy skills, it is critical to give them access to leveled books that span the range of readers in my class. I want to make sure that my students are reading books that are both at their instructional level and their independent level. Having them practice their reading and comprehension strategies in books that are too easy or too difficult will not help them grow as readers. For this reason, I would like to have sets of leveled books that my students can choose from that match where I am instructing them during their guided reading group.
My current classroom library offers minimal leveled readers.
By offering a leveled section in my classroom library, I believe my students will have better access to "just right" books. In return, this will build their confidence as readers, as well as help them continue to build their fluency, reading strategy use, and comprehension skills.
I would also like to build my classroom library with books that focus on social-emotional skills.
The books that I am requesting will be used to teach social skills to my students. These books teach appropriate social skills using fun stories that are exciting and relatable to students!
These books will allow my students to be actively engaged in learning about social skills.
This will allow them to acquire skills that they will need to be successful in school and in their daily lives.
