The needs of 1st graders are vastly different than the needs of 6th graders! I learned quickly that 1st graders need to move around, and move often. We spend lots of 2-3 min breaks standing up and doing fun Go Noodle “Brain Gym” types of activities, but sitting in stiff metal chairs and trying to work can be a real “pain in the butt!” Because of this, I am seeking funding that will purchase flexible seating options, such as wobble stools, wiggle cushions, and stationary balance balls that will make our room much more comfortable and learner friendly! So many first graders need the kinesthetic stimulation that flexible seating provides in order to stay better focused and on task.
