Over 40 students with severe multiple disabilities in our inner city school travel among 5 classrooms for instruction. The sensory items in this project will give my students who are on the Autism Spectrum a space to self regulate, de-stress, and provide necessary sensory stimulation. I can't wait to see the look on their faces when they can feel and create using all of the sensory items! Students with Autism many times respond differently to external stimuli and require Objects and materials with “calming” properties such as water beads, stress balls, and stretchy materials. These materials and comfy chairs will begin to form the sensory room that my students are craving and deserve! The TIME for kids will allow the higher functioning high school students, who can read at about a 2nd grade level, not only something to read that is current events, but something to look forward to in the mail on a weekly basis.
