I think that making a calm space for students to relax in the classroom will be a good way of bringing trust and community in the classroom. A lot of my students are from low income homes and I want to create a nice, comfortable space for my students to read and socialize with one another in the classroom. As an inclusion special education teacher, my job is to make my students feel confident in the classroom. With students with diverse needs, the way I teach looks different from student to student. Some students do well in flexible seating. It is hard for some of my students to sit still in a chair or at a desk. Allowing students the ability to get their work done on a bean bag chair or in a space separate from loud noise and lots of people in the classroom will help me create the least restrictive environment for my students.
