The mainstream ELA classes all read the novel 'Speak' by Laurie Halse Anderson, so my hope is to keep my English Language Learners on track with the same content while making the text more accessible to them given their language level. One class-set of the graphic novel 'Speak' will enable me to not only align the curriculum, but also it will help my students fill challenged by an appropriately scaffolded text. I have personally bought about 6 graphic novels for my classroom library, and those are the only books that my ELL students have successfully and joyfully gobbled up. It is a pleasure to watch them dive into a book headfirst. I want our whole class to experience that together!
