District-wide 80% of our students are on the free and reduced lunch program. We do not have the type of school or district funding of other nearby middle schools comparable to our size and our students don't have the money due to the Social/Economic Status of the area in which we live to provide many school resources on their own. However, the students that I have are eager to learn: requests for student school rental instruments always outnumber the amount of instruments we have available for rental. My Jazz Band students show up to school early to participate in this extra performing group. They are dedicated and talented individuals who inspire me with their drive to overcome obstacles every day to make groovy music.
