I teach in inner-city California and my students are at the forefront of social change as they fight to close the achievement gap in our nation. Our charter middle school is developing our students with the tools to be successful not only in high school but to attend and succeed in college. Given our means as a school they do not receive the same allocations, specifically to technology and books as some other school in the state. They are incredibly energetic and have an undying want to learn. They understand what it is to be a life long learner. Science excites them and history gets them constantly thinking and analyzing. They understand the challenges that lie ahead of them and they see education as a means of power and responsibility for their futures.
