Our classroom is currently lacking in many essential items students need to meet their learning goals. My class needs a 100s chart to make learning numbers engaging and to provide a clear visual. I want to use this 100s chart as part of our morning meeting every day, and having set routines is crucial for children coming from trauma. We also need the foundations for a classroom library and a means of organizing it so that students can use it efficiently. My current library is small, consists of outdated, damaged and over-used books with no organizational system and is poorly set up/displayed. My goal is for my students to be able to check out 1-2 books on their level and one Just for Fun book each week, and these various book collections are a strong start. I am asking for storage bins and a standing organizer so that my students can use a system that is efficient and ensures that they are reading books that are suited for their reading level yet challenging enough to push them to grow. First grade is a crucial year in school: we learn skills like reading, writing, adding and subtracting that can set students up for success in the rest of their academic careers and beyond. I want to foster a love of learning and a sense of agency in my students this year that will endure. Help me show my students that they are worthy and deserving of a quality education.
