As a new music teacher in the Philadelphia School District, I want my students to be exposed to as much music and in varieties as they can. This includes what they listen to, what they sing, and the instruments they learn. I can recall being in middle school and not having a strong music program to teach me basic instrument playing skills. My goal is not to mold the next Maurice Steger or Michala Petri, but to give my students a chance at strengthening their foundational music skills. The recorder will not only teach my students how to play an instrument and practice techniques, but it will also teach them discipline, focus, and good work ethic. I specifically chose the recorders and recorder books for my students because I know the benefits of playing the recorder and acknowledge the book in particular to be a great resource guide for students who I've worked with in the past.
