These books are mentor texts I will use as a base for a lesson. Students will learn to make connections to books, learn to appreciate different genres, and use a variety of skills needed to understand and analyze reading. I use a combination of reading workshop and the school adopted reading program to meet student needs and differentiate student instruction. The use of the mentor texts will assist in solidifying concepts often hard for beginning readers to understand. Beginning readers benefit from hearing proficient readers read text aloud fluently. While reading I point out strategies to sound out words and think aloud for students to help their understanding.
