My students do an online program (READ 180) that enhances their reading speed, vocabulary and comprehension skills. The program shows them a video, then a paragraph about the video where they answer comprehension questions to increase their awareness of the information. My students need headphones WITH a microphone because it records them reading and also gauges their ability to read new vocabulary words. These headsets would help my students so much. The computers we have don’t have very good speakers or microphones. The computers don't pick up their voices very well and the students end up having to rerecord the passages they read mulitple time. These headsets would help them be more successful on the first try. The books I have chosen go perfectly with the mythology we’re covering. We have started our unit on Greek and Egyptian pantheons and it’s wonderful to see them so excited about reading and learning. Several of my students have noticed connections to different charaters that are used in the different games they play. They asked me if there were any graphic novels, so I researched and found one my students said yes too. Your contribution would help keep my students’ excitement about reading going strong.
