They are helping students who are more sedentary to get their bodies moving and enjoy the benefits of a stronger mind-body connection. The props also help student athletes with sore muscles ease into a gentler yoga practice. I am particularly pleased that, because we've had these props from the beginning and I have been actively cueing students to use them, props have become totally normalized and an essential part of our practice. So not only have you helped students access the physical practice of yoga more easily, you've helped remove the stigma that sometimes comes with using props and modifications. Everyone can benefit and feel good about it!\r\n\r\nThe students are very grateful for your support, as shown in a few of their notes. Staff are also benefiting from the props during the weekly staff yoga class I am offering. I'm so pleased to be able to share the benefits of yoga and mindfulness with the Edison community! Thanks to you, we now have a class set of Fido Nesti's stunning graphic novel adaptation of George Orwell's 1984, including copies in Spanish.\r\n\r\nThe impact of these books was immediate. In a classroom as diverse as ours, where students come from various cultures and have varying levels of familiarity with English, \"classic\" literature can sometimes feel like a gatekept fortress. The graphic novel format has lowered that drawbridge.\r\n\r\nI cannot overstate how important the Spanish editions have been. Students who are native Spanish speakers, some of whom struggle to connect with traditional English-only texts, lit up when they realized they could access this complex narrative in their primary language. For the first time all year, I saw barriers dissolve as English readers and Spanish readers discussed the same plot points, united by the visual language of Nesti's artwork.\r\n\r\nWe are currently deep in our analysis of the text, and the engagement is higher than I have ever seen with this novel. The students are fascinated by the pop culture connections; they are realizing that the reality TV show Big Brother and lyrics in songs like Radiohead's \"2+2=5\" aren't just catchy titles, but references to a warning written over 70 years ago.\r\n\r\nIt has been profound to watch 17 and 18-year-olds grapple with Orwell's eerie foresight. We are having difficult but necessary conversations about how an author writing in the late 1940s could so accurately predict our current landscape of surveillance, the manipulation of truth (\"fake news\"), the weaponization of fear, and environmental decay. They are realizing that studying the past is the best way to interpret their own future.\r\n\r\nYou haven't just provided books; you have provided access. You have given my students the tools to decode the world around them and the confidence to engage with challenging literature.\r\n\r\nFrom all of us at Edison High, thank you for helping us see the world a little more clearly.","fullyFundedDate":1756677295110,"projectUrl":"project/a-dystopian-lens-1984-for-high-school/9662361/","projectTitle":"A Dystopian Lens: \"1984\" for High School Seniors","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Darling","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-6_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/4926810"},{"teacherId":10057382,"projectId":9416490,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your donation to our note taking project. Many of our classrooms have students who were born from all over the world; each student speaking multiple languages, while representing their home language, also. Our classrooms are incredibly diverse spaces. Along with that diversity, comes some home-sickness. Many students were uprooted from their homes, leaving behind a life full of love and hope. \r\n\r\nThis project is helping bring back some of that hope by giving our students the equipment to begin growing fruits and vegetables from their home countries. As a physics classroom, we are working on tying together the concepts of Biology and Physics in an energy production unit that focuses around the natural biological processes for energy production. \r\n\r\nWith the Urban Worm Bag and watering can, we are able to propagate, and grow the fruits and vegetables students miss the most. The worm bag provides us with a couple things within the classroom. It provides us a place to compost biological waste, paper towels, and any fruits or vegetables students have left over from their lunch. The worms then compost and digest the food waste leaving nutrient-rich \"worm castings.\" AKA, worm waste which the plants absolutely love!!!\r\n\r\nThe students have been having a lot of fun feeding the worms, and then also holding the worms. Most of the time we leave the worms alone and allow them to do their things, however, sometimes our curiosity gets the best of us and we go searching for the worms, similar to in the picture.\r\n\r\nThank you for your generous donation. This equipment will benefit students not just this year, but for many years to come providing us with amazing fruits and vegetables to eat while learning.","fullyFundedDate":1729976648852,"projectUrl":"project/community-gardens-promote-community-grow/8876667/","projectTitle":"Community Gardens Promote Community Growth","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Cronin","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9787046"},{"teacherId":8800044,"projectId":8498820,"letterContent":"Thanks to your incredible support, our CTE Work-Based Learning classroom has undergone a remarkable transformation!
