Our school is an alternative education school that serves students with severe behavioral problems. Most students have been expelled for violence, gang or drug activity, or constant school disruption. They come to our school and, depending on their offense, serve a semester or year with us. At the end of their time, their behavior and academics are evaluated and it is determined if they are ready to return to a comprehensive setting. Many of our students have had the the "bad kid" label applied to them. While they have indeed done things in their previous schools to earn them this title, one thing I have found is when they are given the right structure and guidance, they form a class similar to those you would find in any other setting. Many of our students who have been unsuccessful at comprehensive schools thrive at our school. We are constantly looking for new and better ways to reach the students who have been deemed "unreachable".
