My classes may not receive the experience of painting on canvas if it was not for this donation. With a student population of over six hundred children it is difficult to purchase enough canvas boards. Students will be able to paint from life outside in the style of impressionist Claude Monet. Their plein air works (french term for outdoor painting) will be composed of elements from a garden they helped to plant in our Agricultural ART class. The stiff canvas boards will allow them to have more stability as they render their masterpieces on canvases with easel supports. The students enjoy breaking out of the traditional classroom environment to work in the garden and will find equal joy in being able to paint outside! Research shows that within minutes of children exiting the classroom to go outdoors they are more relaxed. As the students are more relaxed, they will be free of their inhibitions, and thus render mini masterpieces to the best of their ability. These young minds will grow mentally from hand-eye coordination, emotionally from the self confidence of improved skill, and ability-wise as they are able to make improvements along the way. Students will delight in seeing their finished work and the works of their classmates as they present their finished art to one another!
