Much of the learning done in Kindergarten focuses on helping our students become more independent. Children need to learn to be responsible for their materials in order to be successful students throughout their educational career. Because of the large number of students in our classroom, we need to stay very organized. My current shelf is cardboard and is now broken and not usable. Having a sturdy shelf where each student has their own cubby to keep their supplies is an integral part of our classroom. It will help keep us organized and tidy, as well as help make our many transitions each day more smooth. When our shelf broke today, my students were worried about what we will do now. They were excited to hear I am working on getting them a new one! As the students gain independence and responsibility by taking care of their supplies, their self-confidence grows, which makes for wonderful learning opportunities!
