My students come from various social, cultural, language and economic backgrounds. They study hard to prepare themselves to meet the career needs of the 21st century. However, our classroom computers are nearly a decade old. They are running very slowly and are often breaking down. The old and out-of-date classroom computers are a source of frustration for my kindergarten students. Some of my students are losing interest in using the old computers because they are tired of the wait-time. We live in a technology world where each child will grow up using computers to learn and to work. I want to be able to provide an engaging learning experience through the usage of Chromebooks to enhance my kindergartners' learning. With the new Chromebooks, my kindergarten students will be able to quickly visit educational websites to practice Mandarin, vocabulary, reading, writing, and other subjects. They will be able to use interactive language apps to listen to and practice Mandarin and English. My students can also learn to do research using the Chromebooks. With the small size Chromebooks, my students can work alone or with a partner in the classroom without having to wait for their turn at the computer station. They will gain confidence and proficiency in using technology to learn. With up-to-date technology support, my students will be able to improve their language and technology skills that are essential to succeed at school and in the work force.
