At any age, learning is personal. Whether you are working in an office, at home or a library, you choose to sit where you can best focus. This may be at a table, couch or even on the floor. This choice allows us to take ownership over our work and learning to stay engaged. In schools, students are asked to sit in desks for up to 6 hours a day. If students were given a choice of where to sit, they would feel empowered by their choice. Flexible seating is a way to keep students motivated, engaged and comfortable. Students can choose whether they want to sit alone or with a group. They can change their location when they need to refocus. Students also need to the ability to move in the classroom. If a student is getting distracted, they can choose to move to another location to stay on task. To accomplish this, I am requesting floor seats and lap desks for my students.
