These books help create a text rich classroom for my students. I have chosen all of these books with adolescents and their interests in mind. I have also chosen books that capture many of the diverse voices and diverse experiences students can learn from by reading good literature. The titles include fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and memoir in recognition of the many types of texts students encounter, as well as the varied reading levels in my classroom. Finally, I considered titles recommended by the SC Association of School Librarians as well as titles my students have enjoyed over the past four years of promoting independent reading in my English classes. With this classroom library, students will be able to choose books which will help them continue to enjoy independent reading time and grow as critical thinkers.
