Thanks to a grant from the Department of Education, a program called Bookshare is now available for all students with a print disability. Bookshare provides access to many books, including classroom textbooks and will read the text to the student. This allows our students to access grade-level vocabulary, strengthen higher-order comprehension, and allow these learners to keep up with their peers. Unfortunately, we are lacking the 1:1 technology needed to provide our ESE students with the devices needed to access Bookshare, on a regular basis. The ideal situation would be tablets that these students can keep at school and utilize throughout the day, whenever a reading is required. By providing these supports, it will increase success with our lowest-performing students and free up time for the teacher to effectively circulate around the room and provide support for ALL students. Our students with print disabilities will access new vocabulary, increase their ability to read, become more independent, and confident. The benefits of having these devices are endless. Please help us to help the kids that need it the most!
