This is a high-interest reading that is geared towards 4-5 graders. My students are in high school, but they read at a much lower level. This documentary novel will allow my students to read and work with the subject of patriotism in class. My students are new to the country, and the various types of reading in the novel touch on a subject that is a pertinent issue today. The novel also uses dialogues, diary entries, speeches and traditional prose to give the students a wide variety of texts. My students would benefit from the various forms of literature.
