Creating a trauma-informed environment throughout school is essential to the overall well being of a student. In order to do that, I provide professional development to the teachers about trauma and the effects of trauma on school-aged children so that we can create an environment where our students will feel safe, secure and loved. I completed the ACE's on our students in 2018 and students in grades 3-8 scored an average of 3+ which puts them in danger of acquiring so many health and academic concerns. Trauma informed care and academics MUST be addressed simultaneously. We are living in unprecedented times and our children are greatly impacted by these times but don't always have the right skills to express their feelings about what is going on in their community. During my groups, students have the ability to learn those skills and implement them in the classroom. It would be even more amazing if I was able to supply our teachers with the strategies from this pamphlet in order to create a safe and nurturing classroom setting also.
