Students love to write their own stories in third grade. They will use their imaginations and take great pride in their writing if they know it will be "published" in hard copy for all to see. By purchasing bare books students will write, illustrate and create a hard copy book that they can keep forever. I plan to have a Young Author's night where students will read their stories and show off their work to their families and friends. Your donation to my class for books and magazines will truly inspire them to be life long writers and inquisitive about the world around them. Students in my school often don't leave the block therefore they can learn about the world through magazines and writing. In addition my students love to read about current events, science and social studies. I feel that purchasing a class subscription to Scholastic Wordwork Magazine would help inspire them to look into areas that we sometimes don't get a chance to teach during the day. These magazines will be used during literacy center time and during social studies in which students can read with a partner and share with the class something new they learned from the magazine.
