Out of the mouth of my firsties: "Maybe if we have colors we wont sit next to people we talk to all the time because we will have assigned spots!" "We will be more focused because we will have our own spot and we wont be sitting on the hard floor." A rug can improve my teaching space and my students' learning space. As we gather each morning for our Morning Meeting, an inviting rug can serve as an anchor to our classroom community. We will return to the rug several times throughout the day to share are learning, thoughts, and ideas. A rug can organize and optimize our classroom space. Students will already know where they are expected to be, rather it's a specific spot on the carpet or just on the carpet in general. Classrooms get noisy and a rug can reduce some of the noise produced when we are actively and productively learning.
