I am an ESL teacher, teaching English Language Learners in Grades K-5. My students are intelligent, talkative, creative, and enthusiastic learners. Although some of them just arrived in U.S. recently, I have always been fascinated to see how fast and how well they are adapting. However, it happens very often that when we communicate orally with English Language Learners, they may sound fluent and seem to understand English well; when we assess their reading comprehension and writing skills, their academic language often does not match their communicative levels. It is very important to help my students develop academic language through cross content areas. In order to reach this goal, multimedia and technology will be a great asset to facilitate my students learning. When learning English as a New Language, video and audio books will make the learning process easier and more interesting for my students.
