City of Ember is a series that young people are drawn to because of its relevance to modern times. This book is a modern classic. A classroom set of 30 books will allow my students to engage in a book club type study of this novel. The Lexile level of 680 makes this selection accessible to low readers, but the thought-provoking content makes it applicable across higher reading levels as well.
