Remember when you took a language class in high school? Wouldn't you have felt so proud to read a REAL BOOK in a level 1 language class?! These kids CAN DO IT, they just need access to the texts! Learning a new language isn't easy. It takes a lot of hard work and INPUT. For most students, increased amounts of input of the language results in better production on their part down the road. By creating a reading area in my classroom of high interest materials, my hope is that my Spanish students feel more engaged and excited to learn and in turn are more willing to start communicating. With these books, students will have directed reading lessons to read by themselves, with their peers, and with me in our Spanish classroom. These readers will not only enhance the learning in the classroom but will help to build my students' confidence so they can begin to use their Spanish skills in the real world!
