With our new Independent Reading Center, my 9th and 11th graders will choose current, exciting fiction that interests them. I will provide time for reading each day, starting with short times and building up reading stamina until they can read for 30 minutes while still maintaining focus and concentration. I already have the Whiteboard where they will build a vocabulary bank from the books they are reading. With the addition of a dedicated Reading Graffiti chalkboard, they will share interesting quotes from their books once a week. These quotes, drawn up graffiti style for the class, will entertain and inspire us, and should encourage students to find the next book they want to read. The unit will end with each student producing a book project for the class. I can't wait to get started. Thank you for helping.
