I want to use games like the Coping Skills Game, Talking Feeling Doing Game, Go Fish and War to help students build social and coping skills. Activity workbooks like "Banish your Self Esteem Thief", "Don't Let Your Emotions Run your Life" and "Starving the Anger Gremlin", help students gain mental health awareness and other skills that will help them to become effective members of society. Early intervention has proven to be effective in supporting student achievement and closing the achievement gap. Giving access to art materials and a variety of sensory resources will help to calm students so they are ready to learn. Play-doh, markers, crayons and water color painting pallets are all mediums for self expression. Emoji and sport's stress squishies help normalize self-soothing and self control. Having a counseling library also helps to erase the stigma around mental health and academic challenges. Giving students access to books at their grade level helps to explain some common problems of childhood. "I am Jazz", "Jacob's New Dress" and "Nonni's Moon" cover topics like worry, grief, gender identity, self esteem etc. Being able to identify with a character in a story helps students to externalize their problems and makes them easier to work through. Finally, having Mindful tools like the water fountain, Yoga singing bowl, sand rakes for a zen garden and Mindful books like "Not Yet", "I Can't Do That: Yet" and "Mindset Matters" helps provide both the tools and the environment to help facilitate a Growth Mindset in students and teach lifelong self-care and coping skills..
