Studies show that the more engaged a child is in their learning, the MORE they learn... I work in a kindergarten classroom where phonics and math are major aspects of our day. I plan to utilize these materials during my literacy and math blocks that consists of 4-5 small (leveled) groups that rotate every 15-20 minutes. Each workstation focuses on various literacy and math skills throughout the year. These centers allow me to spend 15-20 minutes a day per subject with a very small group allowing them 1:1 teacher attention. Specifically, some of the materials I have requested include classic books such as "Shelia Rae, the Brave," and "The Doorbell Rang" read alongs. Students will be able to have these stories read to them during listening center and each student will have their own book to read along with. The Rhyming Sounds Phonics Train, Short Vowels Instant Learning Center, CVC Dice, and Build-A-Word Houses focuses on various literacy skills such as letter-sound recognition, CVC words, spelling patterns, rhyming, etc. I would like to include these tablets into my workstations as an exciting and visually stimulating station where students can choose to have stories read to them, trace letters, or practice reading CVC words. During Math students will be able to learn about counting and numbers with the Lakeshore Number Rockets, Count to 20! and the Magnetic Number Chart. The Number Line Slider Boards will assist students while learning to add and subtract. Finally, the 3-D Geometric Shapes will help my students learn about shapes. I can't think of a better way to create a fun, active, and interesting Kindergarten classroom. I know this will be a great addition to my current workstations and also keep students engaged.
