My students are fifth grades that many come from at risk homes. The school is 70% free and reduced lunch. We also serve a very large population of homeless children who move in and out frequently. I try to make the most of the time spent with students, because I never know how long they will be in my school. If I can help these students understand how interesting and liberating math really is, then maybe they can carry that with them in whatever school they attend next.
