Some benefits to having a classroom area rug include, but are not limited to, noise reduction, safety in the classroom, and providing kids with warmth and comfort. Research has shown that background noise from inside and outside the classroom can negatively affect learning. Therefore, having an area rug helps reduce noise compared to other flooring options. Safety in my classroom is very important, therefore having a carpet cushions the impact of slips and falls. Finally, making the students feel warmth and comfort is very important to me. I want my students to feel safe when they are in my classroom, therefore an area rug will provide thermal resistances, provide a comfortable place for my students to learn. By providing my 3rd Graders with an area rug I will be able to gather my students in one area where they feel comfortable and are away from distractions at their desks. This will allow my students to collaborate with one another and to turn on their thinking caps and prepare for our lesson. I want to provide my students with a safe environment and give them the best.
