Understanding literary concepts is tough. Using picture books allows a quick way to share an entire story in a short amount of time, and the beautiful photographs add detail and understanding to the students visualization of the elements being taught. All students can relate to a touching or funny story when it is told through the use of beautifully illustrated pictures, and when the meaning goes much deeper than the words themselves, this becomes and invaluable way to increase critical thinking and knowledge of literary elements in older students--both those who struggle with reading, and those who simply love a good story.
