Using white boards is a fun activity for students. For some reason, students enjoy writing on white boards versus paper and pencil. Students can quickly write words, sentences, and complete math problems. The use of white boards gives me the opportunity to quickly assess which individual student has grasped the concept and which students will need more individualized help. As students show their work, I can provide immediate feedback. I can check for understanding of new concepts being taught. As with all materials, the white boards provided in my school have begun to age and deteriorate. The old boards are difficult for students to write on and difficult for me to see as I scan the classroom. By donating to this project, you will help to improve and increase the student's focus on the problem versus trying to make their pens work on the old white boards. I will be able to see their answers clearly and the results in more efficient, effective communication between teacher and students. This end result is an increase in the students' academic achievement through increased participation. White boards allow all students to respond to questions, which keeps my second grade students involved in the learning process. Students love to take ownership of their own learning and to illustrate what they know as they increase their knowledge in subject areas. Enthusiasm and student engagement will increase with the new white boards in their hands.
