All K to 5th grade students use my own and only African drum to play different rhythms in music class. All of them play this drum during small percussion instruments circles where they learn how to use their rhythm patterns to make rhythm complements and layered ostinati, or repeated patterns while they sing the songs we are learning in class, in absolutely FUN! All of them performs once a year for parents and family members. We would love some new quality, durable drums on which to play during our drum circles in music class and performances. New drums will help our students improvise, perform, and compose rhythm patterns. As students play these drums, they will be able to truly learn proper drumming techniques as they can now hear and feel the difference in sound with the quality drum. As they drum together, everyone will benefit from the quality drum sound!
