Our students take part in thematic Expeditionary Learning Experiences, that allow students an immersive experience (co-taught in all subject areas), in order to engage the real world and real life professionals. For our 2nd expedition ("Rules to Live By") we will be looking at current social issues around identity (and intersectionality) - one of the ways we will do this is by reading aloud, "Ghost Boys" by Jewell Parker Rhodes. The story follows an adolescent African-American boy, after he has been unjustly gunned down by a police officer. Students will explore identity and our world through project work. Students will be researching biographies of personal heroes/heroines that they choose, and have helped change our perceptions and policies around social issues. Students will have to opportunity to present their project in a way that is meaningful and relevant to them.
