Working in a classroom of severely speech and language impaired children has taught me a lot, but the one things that it has truly taught me is that every child learns differently. Every child has their strengths and along with those strengths come difficulties. Sometimes, those difficulties are simple like sitting still at​ a desk. That is what the expectation has been. But what if the students were able to sit where they choose in order to focus more on their strengths? For example, I think of one of my previous students who was very hyperactive. He could not sit in a desk for the life of him. I got him a standing desk, and his ability to remain on task was amazing. This got me thinking: what if every child had their own "way of sitting?" As you can see from my materials, I am looking for a variety of floor items and table items in order to give each student a choice. The wobble chairs will be at my teacher table where I work in small groups. The floor cushions will be over at the reading nook for students to grab and use to create their own reading space. The balance balls will be an option for students to sit on while doing independent work.
