Having a rug will allow students to take charge of their learning and make the choices that work best for them. When I teach a whole group lesson on the document camera, students who sit further back struggle to be able to see. Currently, we do not have a rug and I have cords that run from my computer to the Smart-board, which makes it difficult for students to find a comfortable place near the board. My students are proactive about their learning and I just want to make sure I am setting them up for success with a comfortable environment. Because our school is older, it doesn't have the best circulation and can get pretty hot. When you add lack of circulation to sweaty 5th graders, it can get pretty uncomfortable and smelly! Having a fan would definitely help us out with this problem while creating a more comfortable environment which will increase motivation for students to participate in their learning. I'm asking for curtains because our classroom has tall windows and during a lock-down both drills and real, we need to have the windows covered. Right now, we have to use chart paper which can be distracting to students. Last, I am asking for a countdown timer. I use this to help bring my students back to their learning when they need some motivation. I currently use my phone, but that can be difficult since it is not very big and makes it hard for students to be able to see how much time they either have left or are taking. Getting this timer, will not only help motivate my students, but improve my classroom management!!
