"When you wish upon a star, Makes no difference who you are, Anything your heart desires will come to you" (Disney) My students love to be creative and they love expressive Art. I want my students to be able to create and feel that what their heart desires will come to them, it truly makes no difference who you are. My students have severe intellectual disabilities. They want to express themselves, but are limited because of their cognitive functioning levels. Creating Art gives them the chance to wish upon a star and express themselves creatively. Art can be created by anyone, anywhere, with any level of cognitive functioning. Thats what makes Art accessible to all if they are given the chance and the materials to create. Art is a universal language. Students that are given the opportunity to express their ideas through artistic expression are more engaged in their learning. My students love to create Art in many different mediums. We need supplies to enable our creative students to express themselves and share their creations. Having watercolor misters and sand art kits will allow for amazing art exploration. Scratch rainbow paper, and sun catcher kits will be turned into masterpieces before their very eyes. When they have finished these wonderful art projects they can proudly display them in fun frames. My students have intellectual disabilities and Art is a creative outlet for them to work alongside typically developing peers and share their love of art. I want to be able to provide these opportunities for my students.
