When class activities are taught through worksheets students lack meaningful representations of their work. Worksheets are busy work and students know this. When students have a journal of their own, a central place where all of their work is stored, they are able to access prior knowledge by referring back to their notes. This results in more meaningful instructional time and less wasted paper. Math journals are an invaluable artifact for scholars to see their growth over the course of the year. Students will leave Algebra with this journal and be able to take it with them as they progress to Geometry. That isn't just wishful thinking: the student I mentioned previously who gave me this idea still had both of her math journals from middle school! Your donations help me give students a more personal connection to their math learning experience.
