Research shows that reading novels increases students' critical thinking skills more quickly than perusing shorter literary works. I have chosen Holes, To Kill A Mockingbird, and Wonder because each of these novels incorporate rich vocabulary along with questioning how culture influences moral choices. * Students will be introduced to new vocabulary through listening while reading in the classroom. * Students will be challenged through class discussions which will improve speaking and listening skills. * Students will be challenged through critical thinking questions requiring written thoughtful responses. * Students will contemplate the moral make up of of characters in the stories leading to personal growth.
