As teachers, we strive to help our students understand what it takes to be successful on their own. As directors, we want students to be able to read and practice music even when we are not right there to assist as this is what it takes to grow from playing an instrument to being a real musician. Providing students with these metronomes/tuner combinations for rehearsals makes sure we can help them become leaders. It takes a lot to learn an instrument, and even more to perfect their abilities not only individually, but as a group as well. It will bring them to the next level of assisting other students with complicated passages by providing a consistent tempo and pitch reference. The classroom is also not equipped with a repair kit for basic fixes for instruments. Seeing as how many of our instruments are aging, a supply of materials for quick fixes would mean less time spent in the shop.
