Students will be able to differentiate the types of mammal tissue and learn how to use dissection tools and microscopes. This authentic learning applies to their own bodies, and it will help prepare students for college-level biology classes. Students will get to see and dissect mammal tissues and organs in their Anatomy and Physiology or Zoology course. They will get to dissect cow eyeballs, pig kidneys, pig hearts, and sheep brains. They will also get to view slides of mammal cornea tissue, cerebellum, kidney, and cardiac muscle. Many of my students have not learned how to dissect or how to use a microscope, and they are juniors and seniors. Soon, many of them will be entering college or career tech schools, and they will need these skills to be successful in life and health science courses.
