The ukulele has many features that cause it to be such an attractive beginning instrument. Aside from being very portable, it is a very approachable instrument. The small nature of a ukulele will allow students to work together in pairs with this instrument. Students will not be overwhelmed by the volume rather may find the sounds of this string instrument rather soothing. Students will find that this string instrument is easy to navigate. The size of the instrument lends itself perfectly to the elementary student as they begin to focus on strumming, picking, or beginning to make a chord progression.
