My classroom runs on project-based learning, so when we read novels and long plays such as Shakespeare, we need a lot of time for activities and projects to enhance comprehension and expand learning. When we read "A Midsummer Night's Dream" students will complete Cartoon Capers where they make comic strips telling the tangled stories of all the lovers before Puck straightens everything out. Students also form groups and act out scenes in front of the class, an activity where comprehension is imperative. My students need a class set of these plays in our room; every student reads Shakespeare, yet our school barely has a full set of some of the plays. If I have a class set in my room, we can read them when we are ready, and we can take our time with them, which is instrumental when learning Shakespeare. Folger editions assist student learning with the way the plays are formatted; offering one side of each page for translation and summary, and offering the other side of the page as the Shakespearean play. This is undoubtedly useful to young minds as they work to unravel and understand the many different aspects of the plays.
